Together Talking Counselling

A safe space to talk

Welcome to Together Talking Counselling

My name is Debra Sowter MBACP Dip.Couns, Dip.Psych.Couns (CYP)

I am a Counsellor based in Rochester, Kent (UK)

working with Adults, Children and Young People

About Me

I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (my core approach is humanistic person-centred) offering short and long term therapy, working with Adults, Children (Age 5+) and Young People. I work with individuals, organisations, charities and educational settings. I work in a client-led way so I will be led by you in our sessions. You can bring whatever you would like to talk about and I am here to give you a safe and confidential space for you to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings. As well as talking therapy, I can also offer creative ways of working.

I am a Registered Member with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) working within their Ethical Framework ensuring that I give you the best, safe and ethical practice. I am a CPCAB approved Counselling Tutor.

I offer in-person counselling, working from my comfortable therapy room in Wainscott, Rochester, Kent. I am available for Online/Telephone Counselling (Nationwide) and Walk & Talk Therapy. I sometimes work creatively, particularly when clients have found it difficult to express how they are feeling. If you feel you would like to work in this way, creative counselling is something I can offer. I work creatively with children and young people including talking therapy, play, music and other Expressive Arts Therapies.

I have experience of working with anxiety and depression, relationship problems/breakdowns, anger management, work-related issues, self-esteem, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, grief and loss, domestic abuse, trauma, selective mutism and social anxiety. I can also offer a holistic approach to counselling providing breath-work, meditation techniques, voice and sound therapies and Expressive Arts Therapies which may help you to regulate your emotions in a safe, calm and grounding way.

How I Work With Clients

I understand how daunting it can be in taking your first step to begin counselling, particularly if this is your first experience.

As your Counsellor, I provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. A space where you can be seen and heard in your own uniqueness. We will be working together in our therapeutic relationship, encouraging growth and working towards developing your self-awareness.

If you are finding it difficult at the moment in dealing with any struggles in your life, you may be wanting to explore this and I will be alongside you, listening compassionately whilst we work towards the focus of your sessions at your own pace. You decide how many sessions you require.

Counselling may help you find out more about yourself, exploring and understanding some of your behavioural patterns and different aspects of yourself, which may assist you in the process of change and growth.
